This is an example of an assignment undertaken within the last two years. I am a versatile consultant with capabilities in procurement, negotiation and proposal management.
This is case study #10 and involved supporting a large organisation as interim contract manager for a range of infrastructure contracts

Situation

The client did not have the the capacity or capability to contract manage a portfolio of critical infrastructure projects. I was engaged to act as part of the client team to contract manage the contracts pending appointment of an in-house contract manager.

Task

The task was to implement the contracts' performance regime so that the contractors were managed against the promises and commitments they made in the contract. The contract terms and conditions were new to both client and contractors alike, so the challenge was to implement the terms in a sensitive way avoiding diluting the contractor's accountability.

Actions

The actions involved scheduling and managing performance review meetings, giving feedback and setting targets for the incoming contractors. I also managed the compliance obligations, such as sharing bank guarantees, insurance cover notes and other contractually obligated documentation. I also arranged for the submission of a variety of management plans such as sustainability plans, environmental plans etc.

Result

There were 'teething problems' -of course- but the contract review meetings happened on schedule. Performance was largely within agreed KPIs but there were some instances of sub-standard performance. I created and shared templates such as agendas and rectification plans so that all parties to the contract adopted a common approach.
